Six elite runners ventured outside the Woking county lines for September’s “on-tour” breakfast club run.
The destination was Horseshoe Lake near Sandhurst, a location new to all except Geoff who had ventured there a couple of weeks earlier in the raging heat of summer and decided it would make a perfect running destination.
A later start than usual, due to the 30-minute drive, meant that the local dog walkers had already occupied most of the car park, but we found enough spots and set off along the small but lovely Blackwater River.

The route meandered along next to the river for the first 5 km, lulling us into a false sense of security along a nice flat path, before taking a sharp turn to the north and heading steadily uphill.
The route continued to climb (with occasional downhill sections) for the next 6 km through open fields, footpaths and a couple of small roads, passing some very nice big houses up to the apex at Simons Wood and Fishers Copse.
The last 3 km took a steep downhill turn, past some friendly looking cows and back to the lake and café.
We ordered our breakfasts (fairly good value) and after sitting on three different tables trying to find the perfect spot we settled down only to see the familiar Horsell Runners orange appearing from where we had just come, to be met by Sean who, true to form, had run the entire route only 5 minutes behind us!
It was a great route and a good option for a walk around the lake if you are looking for a new location.
